Compost Enhances Forage Yield and Quality of River Saltbush in Arid Conditions

High temperatures and water scarcity are among the main obstacles to producing fodder in arid regions. Saltbush shrubs used for livestock many regions, especially saline conditions, due their high salt tolerance. The produced forage materials under these conditions often low quantity quality. This article presents field studies that were conducted two growing seasons evaluate yield quality of river saltbush (Atriplex amnicola Paul G. Wilson) as a function compost application. plants cultivated soil (15 dS m−1), was added at four rates (0, 5, 10, 15 t ha−1). River plant 9.23−15.60 ha−1 stems 4.25−7.20 leaves yearly (over all treatments). crude protein (CP) ranged between 48−70 g kg−1 160−240 yield, protein, dry matter, mineral contents tested increased significantly (p < 0.05) addition. application reduced Na+ concentrations by 14, 16, 19% (as means years) compared with control. In same trend, oxalate 38, 30, 29% Our results show improves activity polyphenol oxidase (PPO) catalase (CAT). Compost reduces adverse impacts salinity improving photosynthesis process increasing antioxidant defense. also enhances growth soils, thus, enhancing value animal feed. Halophyte can be utilize soils not suitable traditional production. addition is good agricultural strategy increase reduce negative effects salts.
